The album opens with High Desert Flowers, where a stripped-back vocal line introduces the journey confidently.
The track grows naturally, like a sunrise over dusty plains. Its melody has a kind of ancient familiarity—something that feels unearthed rather than written. You could easily imagine it playing over a sepia-toned road movie from the ’70s.
With Make Your Own Sunshine, the duo delivers a slice of musical optimism that’s rare in its sincerity. The song works like a gentle remedy, encouraging reflection without ever forcing the mood. Their hippie spirit shines through here, not in a clichéd way, but as a lived-in ethos. There’s a balance between light and gravity that feels earned.
The vocal blend of the male and female voices is one of the group’s strongest assets. It’s particularly noticeable in Charly’s Alone, where the female voice takes center stage. This ballad, soaked in nostalgia, brings forward the duo’s ability to create lush harmonies while keeping the arrangement beautifully sparse. Every note feels intentional.
Hero shifts the energy—psychedelic, slightly mystical. The male vocal adds an oracle-like presence, while the unison sections between the two voices conjure a sense of something timeless and spiritual. It’s here the band truly reveals its range, moving into darker textures without losing warmth.

Chucky Trading Co is an American Folk-Rock duo from New York and Nashville, bringing modern vibes to the classic Laurel Canyon sounds of the 1970s. Brother and sister CS Taber and Patricia “Danger” Taber have been combining traditional and modern music since their teens, and have now returned to their roots with CTC.
The first CTC album (2021) contains 15 heartfelt songs that explore love, life, and human nature. From the opening riff of Grace through the rattlesnake shake of the tambourine on Tumbleweeds, Chucky Trading Co delivers soulful arrangements, magical hooks, and images that touch your core. The second album, A Sky of Hopes, is out now.
CS Taber is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and singer, who is also an award-winning scholar and author. He currently lives in NY with his wife, Sue.
Patricia “Danger” Taber is an artist, designer, and singer. Patricia has worked in professional theater, was a costume designer for Nashville Children’s Theater, and sings a wide range of styles, including folk, pop, rock, and cabaret. She lives in Nashville with her husband, Dan, and their dog, Posie.
