Life-long globetrotter Jakob The Liar, aka Jakob Kupferberg, is an enigmatic singer songwriter and musician who grew up finding solace in his father’s battered guitars as an escape from a turbulent and ever-changing upbringing. His life trajectory was forever changed when a mystery illness held him captive and stole 10 years of his life, laying the seeds for the music he was destined to create. Coming out on the other side, Jakob understood his recovery was as unlikely as it was miraculous. As he travelled the world on a journey to heal and find purpose, Jakob continued to develop his unpredictable yet strangely therapeutic songwriting. He
released two EPs under his civil name, Jakob Kupferberg, titled ‘Crystallised in Moonshine’ and ‘Sweet Surrender,’ receiving praise in the independent press. Then, suddenly he lost his beloved mother.
Dealing with grief yet deeply connected to his mother’s spirit, Jakob grew a new sense of hope and unshakable resolve through song-writing, laying the seeds of his upcoming debut LP, ‘The Great Awakening’. Embracing the truth with a twist of irony at every turn, Jakob defies false narratives, healing his once fractured self with every tune. Deriving his stage alter ego from the titular character of Jurek Becker’s book Jacob The Liar—set in a Jewish ghetto during WWII and later made into a film starring Robin Williams—Kupferberg’s distinct blend of folk, pop and rock encompasses the extremes of the human experience. “A prophet of truth who calls himself a liar – now that’s one to look out for” Mick Swagger, The Rolling Drones.
