Crown Of Fire is Broken Wolves’ Ep Out Now
Good Day Noir Family,
There’s something immediately gripping about Broken Wolves’ Crown Of Fire. From the incipit of I Don’t Sleep, you’re not gently invited, you’re pulled in.

The song shimmers with a dusky mystique that echoes the trance-like momentum of The Doors, yet it’s shaped by its own energy, a kind of nocturnal pulse that doesn’t beg for attention. You are bewitched right away!
Cauldron follows and lives up to its name. It’s a slow-boiling ritual of a track, driven by the interplay between male and female vocals that create tension and resolution in every verse.
The guitar work is rich and atmospheric, with a structure that hints at grunge but never falls into cliché. The track feels like a chant cloaked in shadows, intimate, but distant.
Then comes Fool, a mirage of a song. Its beauty lies in its fragility. There’s a ghostly quality in the way it floats through your ears, only to disappear before you can fully hold onto it.
The melody and lyrics feel suspended in memory, and the vocal harmonies bring to mind moments reminiscent of Alice In Chains at their most introspective.
The closer, Crown Of Fire, is the most cinematic of the four. With an almost tribal cadence and traditional undertones, it feels rooted in something older than modern music, a memory passed down through stories rather than songs. The arrangement is minimal yet intense, and it evokes the image of travelers around a fire, searching for meaning in the smoke.
What makes this EP stand out is its ability to transcend genre lines. Broken Wolves don’t just write songs, they summon experiences. Their music feels ancient and modern at once.

Transcendent!
Formed in 2017, the band made their live debut in 2019 and had their first release in 2020 with their EP and video series, “Live at Taurus”. In 2022, their debut album, “The Summons”, was received with acclaim. As of 2025, the final “Crown Of Fire” EP perhaps stands as their strongest work as a unit, conceptually and in execution, continuing their meld of ‘60s folk-rock and psychedelia with ‘90s alternative and grunge. The EP continues familiar themes within the band’s dialogue of environmentalism and climate change, with an amended dose of existentialist fervour and an updated sonic palate that draws influence from shoegaze.
