Fields Of Redemption is Joe Hodgson’s Album Out Now

Good Day Noir Family,
With Fields Of Redemption, Northern Irish guitarist Joe Hodgson returns not just with a follow-up to his acclaimed debut, but with a full-scale declaration of musical intent.

Fields Of Redemption is Joe Hodgson’s Album Out Now

This is an album that invites the listener into an intricate journey where each track speaks in its own language, yet all are unified by Hodgson’s unmistakable touch.

The record opens with “The Grass Is Greener,” a track that feels like sunlight breaking through after stormy skies. The guitar work is expressive and fluid, with phrases that rise like a breath of fresh air. It feels restorative, almost like a sonic balm for a world in need of healing.

“Shapeshifting” follows with elegance and complexity. Its jazz undertones gradually expand into progressive territories, where unexpected chord shifts and rhythmic surprises keep the listener engaged. Hodgson converses through his instrument, moving confidently through intricate harmonic terrain with grace and clarity.

One of the most striking moments comes with “Give Her What She Wants.” This track bursts with rhythmic energy, reminiscent of a big band in full flight. Hodgson’s fingers dart across the fretboard with surgical precision, never losing the emotional core of the piece. It’s bold and electrifying.

“Losing It” brings a harder edge, driven by a muscular riff that veers into hard rock territory. Yet even here, Hodgson’s refined sense of structure and melody remains intact. This isn’t aggression for its own sake—it’s tightly controlled energy with direction and weight.

“Digging For Dirt” is a raw, almost primal track, unpredictable in its momentum. It channels a kind of wildness that feels instinctive and deeply composed. There’s grit, groove, and imagination layered into every bar.

The album closes with “The Ballad Of Joe Clarke,” a track rooted in folk spirit. An acoustic guitar sets the scene, soon joined by a steady groove that evokes a fireside gathering. It’s intimate and earthy, ending the record with warmth and reflection.

Joe Hodgson has delivered a work of remarkable depth and variety. Each track explores different textures, moods, and techniques, yet everything feels part of a unified artistic vision. Fields Of Redemption isn’t background music—it demands full attention, and rewards it completely.

Expansive!

Joe Hodgson is a guitarist from Ballymagorry, Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Shaped by the turbulent backdrop of The Troubles, his instrumental work channels the raw elements of his homeland—fierce, emotional, and deeply expressive. Blending rock, blues, jazz, and Irish influences, Hodgson’s sound is both dynamic and soulful. After years touring Europe with London-based bands, he returned home in 2018 and released his critically acclaimed solo debut Apparitions in 2020. Guitar World praised his “elite” playing, while ANR Factory hailed the album as “a modern-day masterpiece.” His second album, Fields Of Redemption, is out now, continuing his genre-defying journey.
