Gay Song is Ratfink!’s Single Out Now

Good Day Noir Family,
Gay Song by Ratfink! unfolds like a mirage on a hot, endless highway. The track opens with a heavily treated guitar that feels almost mystical, its echo lingering in the air like heat waves.

It sets a dreamy, slightly surreal mood before Liv’s voice enters—intense, rich, and carrying an unspoken secret.

There’s an emotional charge in her delivery that doesn’t need to be shouted; it’s powerful in its restraint, quietly pulling you into the heart of the song.

The composition brings to mind the refined yet modern sensibilities of artists like LP, with a melodic sophistication that feels deliberate but never overworked.

There’s a nostalgic undercurrent here, the kind that makes you picture deserted beaches at the end of summer, where everything feels fleeting but beautiful. Raph’s subtle background harmonies reinforce Liv’s lead in just the right moments, creating a layered vocal texture that adds depth without overwhelming the track.

There are also sonic hints of Tash Sultana in the atmospheric touches and rhythmic fluidity. The song doesn’t push too hard; it simply flows, inviting you to let your thoughts drift. It’s the kind of track that makes you want to take a late-night drive with no destination, letting the road and the music guide you.

Ratfink! show a rare ability to balance emotion, mood, and craftsmanship. Gay Song feels intimate and expansive, like something deeply personal yet universally relatable. It stays there, much like a memory you’re not ready to let go of.

Mesmerizing!

Gay Song is Ratfink!’s Single Out Now

Ratfink! are Liv and Raph, high school friends turned housemates making DIY pop from their share house in Brunswick, Melbourne. Blending indie folk with dreamy textures, their music is both heartfelt and unfiltered. Their latest single, “Gay Song,” is a raw coming-out story drawn from real-life experience, following the mellow dream-pop vibes of their debut “About Ya.” It’s the second release from their upcoming album WHEN U WERE MINE.
