Good Day Noir Family,

Across its five tracks, the EP demonstrates consistency and variety, offering songs that flow together while each carving out its own identity.

The opener, Angel, immediately reveals the duo’s strength: emotional vulnerability delivered through melody. Evelyn’s vocal delivery, particularly when she sings the word “Angel,” pierces with intensity and sincerity. It’s the type of moment that stops the listener in place, underlining how a simple phrase can carry enormous weight when performed with such emotional charge. The instrumentation remains minimal, allowing her voice to shine while pulling the audience deeper into the song’s atmosphere.

Between the Eyes continues in a similar mood but develops with more rhythmic guitar strumming. The track grows patiently, layering subtle textures until it expands into something fuller. This gradual build shows the duo’s compositional control; nothing is rushed, and every addition serves the melody. The result is a track that feels alive, shifting like the seasons referenced in the EP’s title.

You Lost It All is another highlight, opening with elongated guitar notes that set a reflective tone. The hypnotic quality of the vocals here is striking, creating a trance-like effect that encourages quiet contemplation. Influences from Mazzy Star and Grant Lee Buffalo can be heard in the tone and pacing, yet Wasting May filters those inspirations through their own lens. The song’s cohesion proves their ability to maintain a distinct artistic identity while still acknowledging their influences.

The EP closes with Sincerely, Sarah, a song enriched by the voice of a French guest. Her contribution adds a new texture and emphasizes how the duo’s experiences in Paris have informed their artistic choices. It feels experimental yet natural, showing that Wasting May are not afraid to expand their palette while remaining true to their core aesthetic.

Ultimately, I Watched the Seasons Change is a record that thrives on nuance. The duo’s ability to balance fragility, experimentation, and consistency makes this EP both moving and memorable.

I Watched the Seasons Change is Wasting May’s EP Out Now

I Watched the Seasons Change was inspired by the magical time we spent abroad in 2024 and then coming back to the States to the continuing meaningless division in our country.  The songs represent love, nostalgia, rejection realization and division, self-inflicted wounds and loss, and joy.

Wasting May is an indie singer-songwriter duo from Orlando, Florida.  Band members, Ethan DeBoard and Evelyn May Nielsen, met as freshmen in high school in 2018 and began writing music together February 2023.  Wasting May released their first single Maureen in May of 2023 and their debut EP Machine September 2023.
