The opening track rolls in like thick smoke from a noir film, guided by Amanda Wahlström Plantin’s voice, strikingly theatrical yet restrained. She doesn’t simply sing; she delivers.
There’s a delicate intensity to Autophobic, where Amanda’s phrasing conjures flashes of Björk—subtle inflections, off-center melodies, and a kind of fearless emotionality. The band takes risks with structure, yet nothing feels forced. The chord progressions twist and turn, but the transitions are seamless. It’s adventurous, but never chaotic.
We Are Heroes brings a shift in tone—ethereal, suspended in some unnamed space between jungle and glacier. It’s a meditative experience, evocative of distant lands and ancient memory. The duality of Elephant Run’s influences becomes a strength: these songs breathe with global textures, yet remain personal and focused.
Pega Mal ventures into Brazilian territory, but filtered through a Balkan perspective. Fernando Coelho takes the lead on vocals, singing in Portuguese with a delivery that glides over a groove that’s celebratory and mysterious. It’s as if a carnival is unfolding in a back alley—wild, slightly menacing, yet impossible to resist.
Closing track Utsålt is a masterstroke. Amanda returns with a cinematic performance that could easily soundtrack a Bond film. The arrangement dances between restraint and explosion, boasting high-end harmonic choices and subtle rhythmic shifts. It’s ambitious without showing off—just great musicians knowing how to play for the song, not above it.
Leftover Land is a global journey rooted in soul and spirit. It fuses jazz, noir rock, folk, and world rhythms into something that feels ancient and new at once. Elephant Run doesn’t sound like they’re trying to impress—they’re simply being, and that’s what makes this album hit hard.

Elephant Run is a transcontinental band born from a serendipitous meeting between São Paulo and Malmö. Blending Nordic introspection with the raw pulse of Brazilian experimental rock, the group features Amanda Wahlström Plantin (vocals/piano), Ladislau Kardos (drums), Fernando Coelho (guitar), and Renato Cortez (bass). Their latest album, Leftover Land (April 12, 2024), captures the emotion of their São Paulo reunion and the creative intensity of sessions at Mato Records Studio. Despite the miles between them, Elephant Run channels a bold, unified sound shaped by distance, resilience, and global influences.
