Good Day Noir Family,
SIREN’s “Nightmare Paradise” opens with a moody piano figure that creates a kind of tension, equal parts beauty and unease.

It’s not long before the drums crash in, locking into a groove with the guitar riff and pushing the track into full motion.

There’s something intricate going on here, a compositional mindset that pulls from unexpected corners of rock history.

The vocal line feels theatrical, yet understated, evocative of Bowie’s shape-shifting delivery with shades of Nick Cave’s dark narrative tone.

When the harmony vocals rise in the chorus, a subtle shift occurs: the melody lifts, gains momentum, and invites you into a strange world that’s equally hypnotic and unsettling. This is not a track written with radio in mind—it’s a track that invites you to get lost in it.

There’s a clear ‘80s prog-rock sensibility running through the track, not in excess, but in structure. The chord progressions don’t follow easy patterns.

Instead, they surprise you—bending the rules just enough to keep your ear alert, and your curiosity piqued. It’s in these moments that SIREN reveals their depth.

The bridge takes a sharp turn, pulling the song into new territory before everything coils back and drives toward a dramatic finish.

The guitar solo here is tasteful, fluid, and expressive, showing off not just technical ability but personality. And then, just when it feels like things might keep going, the track slams shut with a guillotine-like end that leaves you blinking in the silence, ready to dive back in.

“Nightmare Paradise” feels like a journey through a dream you can’t quite interpret—but one you want to revisit.

Intricate!

Siren is a progressive rock band with deep roots and a bold future. Fronted by founding member and lead songwriter Rob Phillips, the band originally emerged in the ‘80s and found renewed momentum with the acclaimed albums Don’t Mind (2007) and You Never Noticed (2009), both featuring drummer and engineer Mike Cupino. Their enduring fanbase helped bring their earlier work to streaming platforms in 2021, and since then, the band’s current lineup—Chris Bonelli (bass), Chip Gardner (keys/organ), Todd Grubbs (lead guitar), and Phillips—has been back in full force.
