Good Day Noir Family,
Listening to Tears On Denim and their single Overboard for the first time is like diving into a sharply defined emotional space.

Overboard is Tears On Denim’s Single out now

A confident guitar riff opens the track, and a wave of clear 1980s-inspired energy settles in. However, the song does not stay anchored in nostalgia.

Instead, it pushes forward with intent, blending past influences with a modern alternative edge.

Soon after, the dual vocals take center stage. The male and female voices intertwine naturally, and their interaction becomes one of the song’s strongest features. Rather than competing, they support each other, shaping a melodic line that feels intense and cohesive. The chorus lands with a sense of scale that feels epic and slightly dystopian. Moreover, the band clearly understands dynamics. The verses pull back just enough, while the chorus expands confidently, giving the song a satisfying sense of movement.

The distorted guitars play a crucial role throughout. They sound aggressive, yet they never overwhelm the vocals. Instead, they add drive and texture, reinforcing the emotional tension without cluttering the arrangement. Meanwhile, the rhythm section remains tight and purposeful, keeping the track grounded even as the melodies reach outward. Because of this balance, the song feels big and real, not overproduced or artificial.

Influence-wise, Overboard carries echoes of Foo Fighters in its muscular alternative backbone. At the same time, the layered guitars and emotional shifts recall moments associated with Smashing Pumpkins. Additionally, the opening guitar riff brings to mind the direct, arena-ready confidence often linked to Bryan Adams. Yet, despite these references, the band never loses its own identity.

What stands out most is the sense of chemistry. This sounds like a band that has spent serious time in a rehearsal room, refining details and learning how to leave space for one another. As the song reaches its final moments, the emotional weight feels earned rather than forced. Overboard does not rely on tricks. It relies on connection, structure, and conviction.

Tears On Denim deliver a track that feels powerful, balanced, and emotionally direct.

Intense!

Tears on Denim blends the romance and bombast of ’80s arena rock with a modern indie edge—neon-lit nostalgia, big choruses, and harmonized male/female lead vocals that feel both familiar and fresh.

Formed by longtime Boston collaborators David Drouin (vocals, guitar) and Aaron Zaroulis (drums), the project took shape when Alice Austin (vocals, guitar) joined from Los Angeles. Austin is the frontwoman of the internationally touring Black Sabbath tribute Black Sabbitch and a prolific solo artist with eight studio albums.

Together, Tears on Denim channel a retro-futuristic rock energy that nods to Dirty Dancing and Blade Runner, embracing heartfelt hooks, romantic longing, and unapologetic rock-and-roll escapism.
