Good Day Noir Family,
The Paradise Riflebirds’ latest single, Singing Tree Forest, immediately immerses listeners in a world that feels mysterious and intense.

From incipit, there’s a striking decisiveness in the music that hints at something unusual and intriguing.

The atmosphere is thick with uncertainty, as if wandering through a fog-laden forest at night, where every sound could mean something unexpected.

The rhythm itself feels unpredictable, giving the impression of moving through a shifting landscape. Just when you think you’ve found your footing, the song morphs into an even more enigmatic presence.

The melody carries a slightly eerie tone, evoking a sense of exploring the wilderness under a moonlit sky—there’s a natural beauty to it, but also a hint of danger lurking in the shadows.

One of the things that I liked the most about Singing Tree Forest is the use of the accordion, which brings a vintage touch to the instrumental piece. This choice adds a layer of unpredictability to the song’s sonic palette, making it feel almost like controlled chaos, like a musical representation of primal instincts and raw emotions.

The track’s structure feels carefully crafted, with each note purposefully placed to enhance the sense of unease and wonder.

This song would make an ideal soundtrack for a psychological thriller, stirring something deep within the listener. The Paradise Riflebirds demonstrate a remarkable ability to merge traditional sounds with a more experimental approach, creating a piece that challenges conventions while remaining hauntingly beautiful.

Enigmatic!

Australia/Scotland collective The Paradise Riflebirds have launched their latest sonic evolution, introducing their signature “polyphonic steamroller” sound with the single “Singing Tree Forest.”

“Singing Tree Forest” is the first glimpse into their upcoming untitled album, showcasing a denser and more daring approach than previous releases.

Written by Simon J in Cairns, Australia, the track features session musicians Pereg ar Bagol (France, French Accordion), Chris Dreher (UK, Bass), and Bechir Jelassi (Tunisia, Drums). The mix was crafted by Bruno Simonetta (Spain), with mastering by Alan Douches (Chelsea Wolfe, Converge, Zeal and Ardor).

The Paradise Riflebirds—comprising Simon J (Cairns, Australia) and John Tulloch (Edinburgh, Scotland)—have previously released an LP, Victorian Evening, and an EP titled The Riflebirds EP (as “The Riflebirds”). Drawing influence from post-rock, Radiohead’s OK ComputerAmnesiac era, 70s King Crimson, and early doom metal like Black Sabbath and Candlemass, the band’s new direction aims to make a mark in the world of cinematic soundtracks.
