Good Day Noir Family,
Block’s The Last Single Guy [Deluxe Edition] opens with “Color Of Heaven,” where a smooth groove immediately places you in a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere.

The arrangement is tastefully layered, and the background vocals gently stretch the mix, giving the song an easy openness that draws you deeper into his world.

“Sweet Potato Pie” follows, revealing Block’s adventurous spirit. He doesn’t just stick to familiar roads — he bends and twists the path, playing with lyrical phrasing in a way that recalls the wit and charisma of Lou Reed. His voice carries that same streetwise charm, delivering each line like a conversation you don’t want to end.

The mood shifts with “Christine’s Loft,” a ballad so intimate it almost feels like Block is sitting right across from you. The minimal piano accompaniment frames his vocal delivery perfectly, allowing the emotion to surface without overstatement.

“Far Away” captures a restless energy, evoking the urge to pack a bag and chase a horizon. The sense of movement, both physical and emotional, is strong.

Block, in his compositional style, proves he can channel a range of influences — there are glimpses of Fatboy Slim’s looseness, Lou Reed’s grit, Nick Cave’s dark poetics, and David Bowie’s fearless transformations.

“Swing Set” shifts gears into funkier territory, riding a bassline that’s pure movement. The vocals here have a hypnotic effect, part oracle, part street poet, guiding you through a hypnotic rhythm that’s hard to resist.

“Show Business” brings a noir flair, dripping with vintage attitude. The muted trumpet sounds and swinging groove transport you to a smoky club where every glance carries a secret. It’s stylish and infectious without ever feeling forced.

The bonus tracks add extra charm to the album’s personality. “Hands Up” carries a steady energy, but it’s “Run Run Run” that really grabs attention, with a rhythmic drive that calls to mind the iconic opening of Pink Floyd’s “Money.” Its sly cadence practically demands you tap your foot along, the kind of groove that seeps into your bones.

Closing with “Ave. A Reprise,” Block chooses an instrumental goodbye. Brass sections soar with a rich, vintage flavour, offering a gentle, wordless finale that feels like the perfect curtain call — understated but full of heart. It leaves you wanting to hit play all over again.
