The Racecourse Sessions is Dead Flag’s Album Out Now

Good Day Noir Family,
The moment you hit play on Dead Flag’s The Racecourse Sessions, you’re thrown straight into the fire. The opening track “Doubtful Sky”, doesn’t waste time.

It arrives loud and raw, with a voice that immediately commands your attention — gritty, urgent, and tinged with a nostalgia that recalls Greg Graffin of Bad Religion.

There’s a subtle ache buried in the vocal delivery, and the chorus crashes in like a storm you saw coming but couldn’t dodge.

Then comes “Fright, Jump, Slap,” and with it, a thick cloud of ‘90s distortion. The guitar riffs nod toward early grunge, think Stone Temple Pilots or Screaming Trees — but Dead Flag doesn’t simply mimic their heroes.

The performance is instinctive and unpolished in the best way: every note feels earned, not programmed. The band’s chemistry comes through loud and clear.

“Coat of Arms” builds tension with a sneaky, slingshot-style guitar line that winds up and then releases into full throttle. Here, the influence of Soundgarden surfaces, not just in tone, but in the track’s structure and how the band lets things simmer before breaking loose.

On “Delinquents,” the group switches up the structure. The verses strip down and pull back, only to erupt again in the chorus. There’s a pulse here that hints at the melodic tension of early Muse, but it’s filtered through something much rawer a garage ethos that refuses to be polished down.

Then comes “Overlord,” easily a standout. Tribal drumming opens like a war chant, followed by razor-edged guitar lines that bring to mind Ixnay on the Hombre-era Offspring. It’s a track that charges forward without hesitation, full of drive and danger. There’s an urgency here that feels physical, like it belongs to a mosh pit, not a playlist.

Closing track “Stakeout” hits hard from the jump. It’s not dressed up, and that’s the point. No auto-tune, no beat loops, no shiny production tricks. Just humans in a room making noise the way rock was meant to be made. The song has grit, bite, and most importantly, heart. This band doesn’t play music to impress an algorithm. They play because it’s the only thing that feels honest.

Dead Flag’s The Racecourse Sessions is a punch to the chest, a reminder that real instruments, played loud by real people, still matter. It’s chaotic, instinctual, and full of fire.
