White Devil is Until They Burn Me’s Single Out Now
Good Day Noir Family,
Until They Burn Me return with “White Devil,” a track included in their album A Carnival of Reveries, which I reviewed before here. A song that moves like a shadow down a back-alley at midnight — slow, dangerous, and undeniably seductive.

Rather than rushing into chaos, the band chooses patience. A slithering, low-tempo groove introduces the piece, the bass pulsing like a heartbeat while subtle percussion keeps time with steady swagger. Instinctively, your foot taps along, drawn into a rhythm that feels equal parts ritual and seduction.
The vocals enter in a hushed, breath-driven tone, carried on a blues-soaked whisper that suggests secrets and sin. This delivery gives the song a noir edge, as if the singer is confessing in a smoky bar where the lights barely cut through the haze. Guitar phrases remain minimal but purposeful, swaying in arcs that feel simple and carefully measured. Moreover, the playing never overreaches; instead, each note lands exactly where it needs to, leaving space for tension to breathe.
There’s something cinematic in the track’s restraint. The arrangement remains lean, as if built on shadows rather than bricks. Yet it never feels empty — the band’s ability to place every instrument with intention gives the song muscle without noise. It carries an intoxicating nocturnal mood, where darkness is not danger alone but temptation. Additionally, the whispered baritone hints at menace yet refuses to break into aggression, amplifying mood over volume.
Sonically, “White Devil” pulls from the swamp-blues mystique of Nick Cave and the sultry pulse of Queens of the Stone Age, but its personality stands on its own. The groove hypnotizes. The atmosphere thickens. And slowly the track draws you deeper, like a quiet spell cast in slow motion. The band once again shows command over subtle intensity — the kind of emotional heat that rises under low light.
Minimalism can be a risk, but here it becomes power. Every element serves mood, and every second breathes danger and desire. This is a song for night drives, whiskey-half-empty bars, and those who prefer their rock shadow-kissed and intoxicating.
