Modern popular culture suffers from an obsession with youth – Child Actress gave herself this title as a means of teasing this infatuation – though Rena Kozak, the creative force behind the project, is by no means a young artist.
A veteran of the music industry as a producer and live sound engineer, Rena has had a successful 22 year long career on the other side of the music while maintaining a body of work of her own songs as a creative outlet.
In February of 2012, Rena’s boyfriend passed away unexpectedly in his sleep beside her. Waking up to that loss changed the course of her life dramatically and has deeply affected her creative output. From that day onward all of her actions have been in some way informed by grief, and the music certainly is no exception. Originally from Calgary, Alberta but now based out of Montreal Quebec, Child Actress has kept the Calgary connection by working with Red Spade Records.
