Blood in Her Dreams is Shawna Virago’s Album Out Now

Good Day Noir Family,
The raw, nuanced voice of Shawna Virago is the undeniable centrepiece of her powerful new album, “Blood in Her Dreams.”

Blood in Her Dreams is Shawna Virago’s Album Out Now

Every inflexion carries the weight of a life richly textured by experience. Virago wears her heart on her sleeve, refusing to be confined by filters or pretence.

Her music throbs with pure, unadulterated emotion, symbolising the cathartic power of artistic expression.

Virago’s sound draws inspiration from many influences. Classic American rock and folk form the foundation, but echoes of the European scene, particularly the raw energy of London punk, weave throughout.

This creative fusion shows Virago’s artistic vision – a vision that transcends borders and seeks unity through shared experiences.

The album’s lyrical depth is stunning. Virago’s words transcend mere song lyrics, morphing into introspective poems that lay bare the complexities of the human condition.

She tackles weighty themes, urging listeners to confront their biases and embrace difference’s beauty.

“Blood in Her Dreams” is a dynamic journey, shifting between electrifying rock anthems and intimate folk ballads. This chameleon-like quality showcases Virago’s versatility as a musician and storyteller.

I saw similarities in her personality and attitude with iconic artists like Rozz Williams and David Bowie.

Virago’s album is a rare gem, a deeply personal masterpiece that resonates on a universal level. It’s a must-listen for anyone seeking music that challenges, uplifts, and leaves a lasting impression.

Unique!

Shawna Virago is one of America’s first openly transgender women to tour nationally, performing as her true self since the early nineties. She is a pioneer in the pre-millennial punk scene, and is celebrated for her firebrand fusion of punk and country and her striking lyrics. Virago has been profiled online, in print and on radio including Bitch, Louder Than War, No Depression, Paste magazine, on NPR and PBS, and on left-of-the-dial radio. The Advocate named her song “Objectified,” as on of the nation’s top Transgender Anthems.

Virago’s narrative is one of courage and creativity, of facing a world often hostile to trans identities with unwavering strength and an unyielding commitment to her craft. Her music, while deeply personal, speaks to broader themes of resistance, empowerment, and the ongoing fight for visibility and rights within the trans community.

Her songs call on listeners to engage deeply, to recognize the humanity in each other, and to appreciate the beauty of living authentically. Virago is a published writer and her work appears in many anthologies. She is the Artistic Director of the San Francisco Transgender Film Festival and her films have screened at festivals throughout the world.
