E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like – Chestnut

Good Day Noir Family,
our “E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like” section is dedicated to Chestnut. I discovered this Du0 while shuffling songs on Spotify and I liked their compositional style.

What interesting music this duo proposes, truly a unique and original musical project.

Chestnuts love to explore the shadow more than the light, their music enters you sinuously like a snake and hypnotizes you by digging into the most remote parts of your unconscious.

Crepuscular atmospheres that are sometimes even sinister but always refined. I closed my eyes while listening to their new EP and started wandering with my mind.

I saw myself walking around the streets of London on a foggy night and I took refuge in an unknown bar in the suburbs to have a drink and found myself surrounded by strange people staring at me … more than being afraid I felt at home with those weirdos.

This music is wonderful and unique and I highly recommend it to everyone!

Hypnotizing and Magical!

Chestnut, formed in 2015, is a Los Angeles via Florida based experimental sound duo comprised of husband and wife artists Christina Santa Cruz, and Daniel Watkins. Beginning as a Letterist response to the posturing of American “classic rock” Chestnut has matured towards a practice that incorporates elements of harsh noise, ambient music, field recording, and alternative rock.

Their work carries an implicit narrative quality with each song forming its own little universe of found sounds and discordant instrumentation onto which their vocals act as AM radio tour guides through the unmarked hotspots of the haunted American landscape.
