Good Day Noir Family,
I already reviewed Christian Wethered in the past but his new single “La Madeleine” is out now and I want to share my thoughts about it.
Another time this artist managed to amaze me by composing a wonderful song.
The thing I like most about Christian’s music is the atmosphere. A twilight and sexy music that makes you travel with your mind. I immagined myself in an unknown bar of New York sipping a whisky one of those nights when you just want to stay alone.
His music reminds me of Hopper’s paintings and I imagined myself being inside one of those paitings.
His music is capable of bringing the works of this great painter to life
Wethered’s voice speaks directly to the heart and frankly it was able to hypnotize me and I really enjoyed this new song by this eclectic and talented artist.
La Madeleine is Christian Wethered’s Single Out Now!
Refined and Unique!
Dublin-based poet/songwriter Christian Wethered is set to release a new single, “La Madeleine.” The song is the fourth release off of his upcoming debut album Mon Petit Jardin.
Emphatic and brooding, the song addresses the complex dynamics of abandonment. The Nick Cave-esque tune combines Christian’s almost spoken vocal with a raw, driving groove, hand plucked guitar, ambient sounds, and a shuffle of drums.
He says, “The song explores the bleakness and alienation experienced when being dumped. I used to live in a small town in France called La Madeleine, and I was trying to conjure this setting for the song.”
He goes on to say, “La Madeleine” is an epic song about heartbreak. At the same time it’s also about nothing at all: the lonely absences and pauses between. It was originally supposed to be a quiet, traditional folk song, but the drum groove made the sound really big. Though it’s loud, the sound is about absence, the subject the song approaches is empty space.”
