Good Day Noir Family,
Matare’s Extinction Burst unfolds like a late-night journey through neon-lit cities, where electronic textures and rock roots collide in unpredictable ways.

The opening track, Attach Your Memories, hooks you with glowing pads and an atmospheric shimmer that feels futuristic and nostalgic.

There’s a cinematic sense here, as if the listener has just stepped onto the buzzing streets of Tokyo in the 1980s.

The album’s pulse grows sharper with I Could Kill You But I Love You. Francesca Pratt’s drumming anchors the track, her snare snapping with conviction while Matare’s voice drifts in reverberated echoes. The delivery feels hypnotic, pulling the listener deeper into the song’s shadowy mood.

Never-Ending pushes this momentum further, leaning into a driving rhythm that recalls The Cure and Alphaville, tinged with a gothic undercurrent. Its nostalgia is undeniable, but Matare gives it a contemporary edge.

That’s What People Do brings a different energy. There’s something mysterious and intoxicating about it, a track that seems designed for a Berlin club at 3 AM. The beat insists on movement, urging you to let go and dance. Later, Forever Light slows the pace, layering arpeggiated pads into a surreal mirage—plastic yet dreamlike, fragile yet luminous.

The record continues with Do What You Can, a song that channels classic ’80s gothic rock while flirting with synth-pop brightness. This fusion of styles is what makes Matare stand out: electronic elements never wash out the darker tones of rock, instead amplifying them in unexpected ways.

The closing title track, Extinction Burst, is a hypnotic finale. The bass and drums interlock tightly, while Matare’s voice rises like a prophetic call. The chorus opens up with a force that feels expansive, the pads blurring into vague yet intriguing melodic lines.

Extinction Burst is an album that thrives on contrast—light and shadow, dance and reflection, electronic clarity and rock grit. Matare has created a record that doesn’t just revisit the past but reframes it with originality.
