E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like – Gerasimos Papadopoulos

Good Day Noir Family,
our “E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like” section is dedicated to Gerasimos Papadopoulos. I discovered this Artist while shuffling songs on Spotify and I was bewitched by his music.

Are you ready for a journey back in time?

This ancestral music will have the ability to awaken primordial instincts as it comes from the lands considered the cradle of our civilization.

The historical and artistic research that this artist has done to make us listen to these fantastic melodies is truly remarkable.

Gerasimos Papadopoulos gave us this gift by bringing new life to a voice that over time had been buried by the sand. If today we can enjoy these magnificent tracks it is only thanks to the commitment and passion of this great artist.

I liked all the songs contained in this album, this music has the magical ability to speak directly to the soul and heart of the listener.

A fantastic find that I recommend to everyone!

Byzantine Hymns is Gerasimos Papadopoulos’ Album Out Now!

Anchestral and magical!

The musicologist, cantor, and composer Gerasimos Papadopoulos released his first personal online album entitled “Byzantine Hymns – as chanted in the mid-18th century”.
These recordings are the product of an in-depth study of a musical codex dating from 1750-60. This codex (Sinai 1477) is a recording of the oral chant interpretations of an Athonite – probably – monk by an anonymous Ukrainian music lover in the so-called Kievan notation.

Attempting first to ascertain the meanings behind the notes, Gerasimos Papadopoulos – based on his musical experience and his personal aesthetics – filled in what the score omits, presenting a sound result that is original and sometimes daring for connoisseurs and interpreters of contemporary Orthodox chanting art.
Listening to this album, recorded in the midst of a pandemic and – tragic irony – released in the midst of a war with the Ukrainian people as direct victims, is primarily intended to highlight one of the most important elements of this music: its ability to elevate the participant to a dimension beyond the trivial and obvious, to penetrate the soul and soothe it.
