It is clear from the very first notes that we are dealing with a great musician and composer.

The quality of these songs is impeccable and demonstrates a unique artistic vision that makes his music stand out from the crowd.

Surely James Percival likes to experiment and walk unusual musical paths.

At times, I felt that these songs came from the future with a coded message capable of transforming humanity forever.

The creativity of this artist seems to have no boundaries. There are many influences that have been expertly organized and coexist in a magnificent sound product.

Glasnost is an album that I recommend listening to several times. You have to get used to the sound universe created by James Percival. The first listen makes you settle in, then you begin to appreciate all the brilliant nuances and intuitions.

A fantastic discovery that I recommend to everyone.

Unique!

Stereotypically, growing up in Cornwall means you end up sheltered and closed-minded right? Well somehow I’ve ended up making a debut album on openness. South West Music School was a big part of that, as was my composition degree at RBC under tutors such as Michael Wolters and Howard Skempton. Shoutout to all my musical mentors over the years, the classical ones, the jazzy ones, the simply inspiring ones, the experimental ones. All that’s left is for me to do is combine these influences into one album, Glasnost.

Glasnost is an experimental indie rock album that seeks to push the norms of popular music in as many directions as possible. It merges genres such as Baroque with jazz and rap, but also alternative rock with Indian classical elements, as well as challenging rhythmic possibilities through complex, sometimes phasing, irregular meters.
