Good Day Noir Family,
our “E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like” section is dedicated to Heavy Mama. I discovered this Band while shuffling songs on Spotify and I liked their energetic music.
Good energy, rock without strings attached this is what I thought as soon as the first notes started to hit me.
A band that takes inspiration from rock, blues and jazz and that wisely manages to mix these genres in a unique recipe.
The chord progression is never banal and obvious and the listener is entertained from the first to the last second.
Some parts reminded me of late 60’s rock, Jimi Hendrix’s, and the Doors.
Music that awakens your wildest spirit and makes you feel for a moment on that legendary Woodstock field.

The Scottish blues rock band, Heavy Mama formed in 2005 while they were studying music together at Perth College. Heavy Mama’s live shows served up a potent mix of psychedelic blues-rock that earned them slots at blues festivals around the country and support slots with the likes of blues legend Otis Grand and indie favourites,
Idlewild. Even though the band is now spread across different parts of the world, they still perform together whenever possible and to celebrate 15 years since their first shows together, the band is set to release two previously unreleased studio recordings this year (the first of which, Devil On My Shoulder (2021 Mix) was released in April 2021).
