I Still Can’t Decide What I Want is The Setting Son’s Single Out Now

Good Day Noir Family,
There’s a magnetic unpredictability to “I Still Can’t Decide What I Want”, the latest single by Copenhagen-based band The Setting Son.

I Still Can’t Decide What I Want is The Setting Son’s Single Out Now

Driven by Sebastian T.W. Kristiansen, the group has always walked the line between retro fascination and modern grit—but here, that fusion is in full bloom.

The track opens with a guitar riff that wouldn’t feel out of place in a 1950s dance hall—almost La Bamba-esque—but don’t get too comfortable. As soon as the vocals kick in, the tone shifts into a richer, more psychedelic dimension. The melodies call back to the expressive textures of ’80s rock, layered with an array of sonic colours: shimmering keys, bursts of brass, and just the right amount of vocal echo to evoke a vintage haze.

There’s a cinematic flair to the arrangement, as if the song is soundtracking a dusty road trip that moves from the sun-baked streets of Mexico to overcast afternoons in the UK. It’s eclectic, but never chaotic. Everything feels considered—especially the guitar solo, whose phrasing and tone suggest deep roots in classic rock traditions without ever falling into imitation.

The vocals themselves carry a raw emotional detachment, filtered through effects that add to the track’s time-bending quality. It’s nostalgic without being derivative, and modern without chasing trends. That balance is hard to strike, but The Setting Son makes it feel effortless.

“I Still Can’t Decide What I Want” thrives in its own unique space—one foot in the past, the other somewhere beautifully undefined. It’s a road trip song, sure, but it’s also a daydream, a late-night drive, and a spark of creative chemistry that doesn’t ask for your attention—it earns it.

Timeless!

The Setting Son is a Danish rock band from Copenhagen, formed in 2006 and led by the introspective songwriter Sebastian T.W. Kristiansen. Known for their unique fusion of garage rock, psychedelic pop, and fuzz-drenched melodies, the band quickly carved out a niche in Denmark’s underground scene. Originally a solo project born from over 50 lo-fi home demos, The Setting Son gained traction with the help of Bad Afro Records and psych-rock figure Lorenzo Woodrose. Their 2007 self-titled debut delivered hook-laden “bubblegum-psych,” followed by the more mature and collaborative Spring of Hate in 2009. With their 2012 release Before I Eat My Eyes and Ears, they earned international recognition when “Eat My Fear” was dubbed the “Coolest Song in the World” by Little Steven. After a long hiatus, the band returned in 2024 with a series of demo compilations, reigniting their legacy and introducing a new generation to their raw, melodic sound.
