Good Day Noir Family,
our “E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like” section is dedicated to John Engel. I discovered this Artist while shuffling songs on Spotify I liked his music a lot.
As soon as I pressed the play button, the music of this artist immediately put me in a good mood even if in some moments the interpretative style of the vocal melody made me feel a little nostalgic.
Like when you open a drawer and you find some old yellowed Polaroids that make you go back to those past memories.
The atmosphere created by this song took me back to the ’70s and made me imagine driving my convertible on the Sunset Boulevard towards the ocean with a headband in my hair and bell-bottoms.
John Engel certainly has a great compositional experience behind him as the chord progression is never obvious and banal and is able to entertain the listener from the first to the last second.
A nice discovery that I recommend to everyone.

John Engel’s songs are life-affirming, emotive and full of light. Their production is organic and sophisticated, reminiscent of the West Coast Sound.
John performed as a solo singer-songwriter in clubs and bars for years. But when he started getting consumed by his other passion – filmmaking –, he put his musical life on the back burner.
Many years later, after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, John reassessed his priorities, opened that guitar case again, and gathered some top session musicians to record several batches of songs.
