E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like – Kaiyah Mercedes

Good Day Noir Family,
our “E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like” section is dedicated to Kaiyah Mercedes. I discovered this Artist while shuffling songs on Spotify and I was fascinated by her style.

As soon as I heard the magical voice of this artist I was immediately bewitched by her sound.

This girl is only 15 years old but she already seems very mature compositionally speaking.

The new single I Don’t Know Who You Are Anymore is a moving rock ballad that speaks directly to the listener’s heart and soul.

The melody line and the chord progression are well thought out and never predictable and banal.

The great talent of Kaiyah Mercedes is that with her sweet and sincere way of singing she manages to transfer strong emotions and makes you believe the words of the lyrics.

This artist has a bright future ahead of her as she offers music of the highest quality and this is just the beginning of her artistic career.

Absolutely recommended!

I Don’t Know Who You Are Anymore is Kaiyah Mercedes’ Single Out Now!

Sweet and Sincere!

I Don’t Know Who You Are Anymore is the second single by 15 year old singer/songwriter Kaiyah Mercedes, and follows the release of her debut single ‘After Summer Ends’ in February 2022.

With Nirvana and Foo Fighters inspired instrumentation, and powerful lyrics, this track fills you with catchy feelings of regret and anger for someone who has done you wrong. I Don’t Know Who You Are Anymore is the perfect song to sing out loud in your car, with a hooky melody that will be sure to get stuck in your head.
Initially written as a melancholic piano ballad, Kaiyah Mercedes and Melbourne-based producer Chris Wilson flipped the sound of this song from heartbreak to indignation, creating a soundscape that draws you in with full force.

I initially wrote this song going through a difficult period of my life, having gone through something quite upsetting and distressing. Over time though, the meaning of this song changed for me, and I started to become quite vexed about what happened, rather than sad. Creating a rock song from a piano ballad was extremely fun, but also very cathartic. I hope this song resonates with other people who have gone through a similar experience.

Kaiyah has been writing music since 2020, self-taught in piano and guitar, and released her first single ‘After Summer Ends’ in February 2022.
