This song takes an intriguing approach by exploring the concept of going back in time to rectify our mistakes or guide our younger selves on a more efficient path.

It raises the question of whether the experiences, including the missteps, are necessary for personal growth and self-discovery. Ettie’s ability to weave this theme into her music adds depth and substance to the song’s lyrics.

One of the standout features of “Marty McFly” is Ettie’s authenticity as an artist.

She presents herself without a mask, allowing her true self to shine through in her music. This transparency and sincerity resonate with listeners, creating a genuine connection between the artist and her audience.

Musically, “Marty McFly” is a well-crafted alternative rock song. The drums provide a cool groove that complements the nostalgic melody, creating a sound that feels both familiar and fresh.

The song’s instrumentation effectively supports the emotional depth of the lyrics, enhancing the overall listening experience.

Ettie’s vocal interpretation is another highlight of this tune. Her passionate and solid delivery adds an emotional layer to the song, allowing the audience to fully immerse themselves in the narrative.

Her voice serves as a powerful vehicle for conveying the message of the song.

Sincere and Solid!

“As a queer person who came out in her early 20s, ettie often questions “how the hell did I not know I was gay? There were so many signs! The jealousy that came when a best friend got a boyfriend who didn’t treat her right; saying just how lucky boys are to date women, and how sometimes I wish I was a boy so I could date women because they’re so beautiful. Like, girl, you can do that! I was just so deep in the closet that Narnia was closer than me coming out of it.”

There’s a sentimentality and yearning to be able to go back in time and tell her younger self that it’s okay to be who you are. And while humans still haven’t been able to master the art of time travel, they did in Back to the Future.

‘Marty McFly’ is a nostalgic throwback to the cult classic film, with distorted guitars and clashing drums that take you right into the pivotal prom scene at the epoch of the movie.
