As the track begins, the deep, resonant voice of Lidderdale immediately evokes memories of Jim Morrison.

The atmosphere created by this song is immersive, pulling you into its twilight world.

One of the most interesting features of “Need” is the subtle yet effective change in the vocal interpretation during the chorus. Paddy Lidderdale adds a touch of grit to his delivery, which adds an intriguing layer to the track.

This shift enhances the emotional impact and keeps the listener engaged.

The guitar solo positioned between the chorus and verses is a great intuition, providing a smooth transition and continuity throughout the song.

The sound of the solo guitar is noteworthy for its intensity, mirroring the overall mood of the track. The solos are perfectly suited to the song’s structure and emotion.

The chord progression in “Need” is simple, minimalistic, and hypnotic, creating a perfect backdrop for the lyrics.

The lyrics delve into deep, introspective themes, emphasizing the importance of staying vigilant against the temptations that threaten our clarity and sense of direction.

This lyrical depth, combined with the haunting musical arrangement, makes “Need” a memorable and thought-provoking piece.

Paddy Lidderdale’s ability to craft such a profound atmosphere with his music is impressive, making this track stand out in the alternative genre.

1 – 0 to Dr Evil is the music vehicle for the songwriter Paddy Lidderdale. Originally based in Bangkok Paddy wrote need after visiting a friend in hospital who had been admitted after liver failure caused by alcoholism. Bangkok is a city that can eat up a lot of people, the bar life drags down and eats up a lot of good people. The need is a reflection on this struggle, whether it’s booze, drugs, the bar girls or just the lifestyle of Bangkok’s notorious all-night bars.
