E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like – S J Denney

Good Day Noir Family,
our “E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like” section is dedicated to S J Denney. I discovered this Artist while shuffling songs on Spotify and I really liked how he is able to play with instruments and sounds of other cultures.

I was immediately struck by the psychedelic sound of this artist whose music literally took me on a journey.

Music that winks at past musical eras, the ’70s, but that manages to be modern at the same time for the choice of sonorities that mix past and future.

Music that does not disdain to venture into other cultures using ethnic instruments.

In some passages and harmonic choices, this artist reminded me of Kula Shaker.

This music has something hypnotic about it and I felt like a cobra in front of its master and with my neck, I followed the sinuous melodic lines proposed by this talented artist.

The mix is very well done and leaves the right space for each sound element.

These songs breathe and while listening to them you feel overwhelmed by a wind coming from the east.

The Sticking Point is S J Denney’s Single Out Now!

An artist who experiments and proposes very original music!

S J Denney is an Essex-based singer-songwriter.  The Sticking Point is his new single, which follows the release of two high quality EPs.

This track sees Denney take his music in yet another new direction. A range of Indian instruments (including tanpura, tabla and sitar) are present in the mix. One theme that does continue is his effortless ear for melody. The single is best described as a psychedelic earworm.

S J has more music scheduled for release throughout 2021. All of which has been recorded at home, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This change of environment has led to him playing most of the instruments himself. The result is a rare blend of raw emotion and methodical execution.
