About Time is Calum MacColl’s Album

Good Day Noir Family,

About Time is Calum MacColl’s Album

It is evident from the very first notes that we are dealing with an artist with a great compositional experience behind him.

The refinement of the musical arrangements and the solidity of the melodic lines demonstrate highly developed production qualities and artistic taste.

The folk rock proposed by Calum MacColl is very peculiar as it has nuances that reminded me of Pink Floyd and Cat Steven…a weird combination but which, in my opinion, describes the sound universe created by this talented artist.

All the songs on About Time are solid. The album follows a coherent thread… the sweetness and magic of these tracks is undeniable.

The attention to every little detail is obsessive and I advise everyone to listen to the album several times in order to appreciate all its nuances. An album to be enjoyed in small sips like a glass of aged whiskey.

A great find that I recommend to everyone!

About Time is Calum MacColl’s Album

Calum MacColl – musician, musical director, producer, songwriter, and guitarist – has worked at the top of the music industry with high profile international artists for over 35 years. As son of folk legends Peggy Seeger and Ewan MacColl, half-brother to Kirsty MacColl, and nephew of US folk hero Pete Seeger he also has a remarkable musical and political lineage.

From touring with his parents as a teenager, he went on to produce many of their albums including Peggy Seeger’s Grammy nominated trilogy ‘Heading for Home’ and her award-winning 2014 album ‘Everything Changes’.
He and Peggy won the 2015 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards ‘Best Original Song’ for their co-written track ‘Swim To The Star’.
With his brother Neill, he formed Rough Trade signed Liberty Horses, releasing the band’s only album in 1993, the critically acclaimed ‘Joyland’.
Along the way he’s worked and written with Backstreet Boys, Rufus Wainwright, Nick Cave, Natalie Imbruglia, Colin Vearncombe, Eddie Reader, The Bible and Ronan Keating
He won the Victoires de la Music World Music Album of the Year for his co-production of Rokia Traore’s ‘Tchamantche’.

Calum says: ‘It’s About Time – both the songs and the fact that I’ve only just got around to making this, my first solo album, at the age of 58. I’ve been writing songs all my life, but they’ve invariably been for other people to sing. It never occurred to me that I could sing them myself.”
