E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like – Groan Room

Good Day Noir Family,
our “E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like” section is dedicated to Groan Room. I discovered this Band while shuffling songs on Spotify and I liked their direct sound.

The music proposed by this band is hypnotic and as soon as I hit the play button I was immediately intrigued.

Surely these guys have a great compositional experience behind them since the melodic lines are interesting and the chord progression is never predictable and banal.

You feel that Groan Room spent a lot of time in the rehearsal room because their musical understanding is enviable.

Their music is psychedelic, a little acid but at the same time nostalgic and ethereal. This band managed to mix different sonic ingredients and created a unique style that stands out from the crowd.

A musical project to keep under the radar as this band offer beautiful music.

Direct and Solid!

Groan Room’s ear-splitting, raucous and hook-heavy sound is inspired by the transatlantic 90s – grunge and brit-pop with a healthy splash of slacker-rock thrown in for good measure. The Salford-based four-piece of seasoned musicians cut their teeth on the North West’s band scene before getting into the practice room together.

The songs are full of self-deprecation and a tongue-in-cheek apathy towards life and some of the terrible curveballs it throws us. That unsettling angst thrown up by your mid-late twenties is the driving force behind the lyrics, and is further audible in the screeching and groaning of distorted guitars and the furious energy pumped out by the band’s accomplished rhythm section. In March 2020, through an overwhelming act of kindness, groan room went to the iconic Abbey Road Studios to record their debut, cacophonous, three-track EP.
