Good Day Noir Family,
I already reviewed PRTLND in the past but this talented artist is back with a new cool single and I want to share my opinion about it.

I liked the vibes of this song. A good alternative rock ballad.

In some moments the compositional style reminded me of Oasis. The chord progression is very interesting with that dissonance that can be noticed around the seventh second and that is repeated as part of the riff throughout the song.

That detail in my opinion describes how, even when you are in an altered state of consciousness and you are traveling in another dimension, there is always something unexplored, scary and mysterious that lurks in the shadows.

Perhaps it is precisely the abyss that awaits us. Most of the time that abyss is just a small hole that is overwhelmed by positivity but that in some cases opens up.

This song although it transfers positive vibes made me think and this demonstrates the great compositional skills of PRTLND.

High is an upbeat, happy song with great guitars and a definite 90s vibe (think Teenage Fanclub meets Smashing Pumpkins) .

It was written after a session of holotropic breathing session that transported me to another realm 🙂 The lyrics refer to altered states of consciousness, but I’m sure people will interpret it their own way!

PRTLND is the passion project of French-born guitarist, singer/songwriter, producer and mixing engineer, Mathieu Cote. Playing in bands in the late 90s and getting a feel for the music industry, Mathieu put his musical career on hold when moving to Ireland 17 years ago, but never stopped writing songs or avidly listening to new bands.

PRTLND is both a coming of age and a mid-life crisis. Through his music, Mathieu covers universal topics and hopes his music will, if not inspire, at least entertain his listeners.
