Good Day Noir Family,
welcome to Edgar Allan Poets indie music corner. A space dedicated to the best new artists and bands we find around the web. Today’s feature artist is Alternate Jane and her Single Higher Ground.
Higher Ground is Alternate Jane’s Single
I was very impressed by this artist’s story. A woman with incredible determination, who not only managed to become a doctor but who also decided to follow her childhood dream.
With all the hassles of everyday life and with such a stressful job, being able to find time to dedicate to your dreams is inspiring for other people as well.
Alternate Jane has a solid artistic vision and while listening to her new single Higher Ground I appreciated the sophistication of her compositional style.
A nostalgic, romantic, and slightly twilight tune that shows all the nuances of her soul.
The vocal interpretation is intriguing, as the vocal timbre is ethereal and magical… a bit like that of Amy Lee, the singer who inspires her.
Alternate Jane is an artist to watch closely as her determination will take her far.
Higher Ground is Alternate Jane’s Single Out Now!
Refined and Mature!
Higher Ground is Alternate Jane’s Single
Alternate Jane, a pandemic-hardened doctor-musician from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was the blasphemous child who fast-forwarded all the Disney songs in a movie until she grew up and heard the band Evanescence’s song “Bring Me to Life” on the radio. Amy Lee’s soaring vocals and unique style inspired her to sing, while Michelle Branch and her blue Taylor 614ce inspired her to pick up the guitar.
A finalist for the KL Performing Arts Centre’s Short + Sweet Song Festival in 2014, she subsequently focused on her medical career until a brief stint in the Psychiatry rotation reminded her the importance of chasing her dreams and living with no regrets. Debuting “Confidence” in 2019 to modest success with the song featured in various Spotify Editorial Playlists like Just Rock and New Music Friday Malaysia, it was also picked up by local radio station Hitz.fm and was featured on their segment Malaysian English Top (MET) 10 with an interview by DJ Basil.
She subsequently released the indie pop darling “Skype Love” followed by two collaborations with Netherlands beatmaker Cruzu for “My Type” (2020) and “Nearly” (2021). “My Type”, an R&B collaboration with Cruzu and rapper Peaceley, has achieved 30k streams on Spotify since its release. After a hiatus taken to attend to Covid-19 related duties and a harrowing experience battling Covid-19 herself, Alternate Jane realized the importance of cherishing every available moment and resuming the fight for her dreams.
